Full Job Description

NEXUS Bioadaptive Research Complex is recruiting Scientists to join our Research Department within our immersive Second Life blacksite roleplay environment.

As a NEXUS Scientist, you will research unusual, anomalous, and bioadaptive subjects held within the facility. Scientists are encouraged to develop experiments, theories, research projects, reports, and ongoing storylines while collaborating with other departments and the subjects themselves.

Role Responsibilities

* Conduct roleplay-based scientific research and experiments involving contained subjects.
* Interview, examine, observe, and document subjects and anomalous phenomena.
* Develop experiments that create interesting opportunities for both scientists and subjects to roleplay.
* Record findings through research notes, reports, incident records, or other appropriate documentation.
* Work alongside Containment Specialists, Security, Medical personnel, and facility management when required.
* Follow NEXUS containment procedures and access restrictions while in character.
* Respond appropriately to containment breaches, emergencies, unusual behaviour, and unexpected experimental results.
* Contribute ideas for new experiments, research programmes, lore, and facility storylines.
* Maintain professional communication with other members of the NEXUS community.

What We're Looking For

You do not need to be a real scientist or have professional scientific qualifications. This is a Second Life roleplay position.

We're looking for people who can be creative, communicate with others, and contribute to collaborative roleplay. Scientific knowledge is welcome, but imagination and willingness to participate are more important.

Scientists should understand that experiments are intended to generate roleplay rather than simply "win" against another character. Subjects should be given meaningful opportunities to respond, interact, resist, cooperate, or influence how a scene develops.

Roleplay Environment

NEXUS is a high-security underground research and containment facility. Scientists may encounter dangerous subjects, containment failures, experimental incidents, security emergencies, and morally questionable research programmes as part of fictional roleplay.

The facility operates through freeform, collaborative roleplay rather than requiring players to pay for every interaction or activity.

Scientists may develop their own research specialities and characters provided they remain compatible with the NEXUS setting and established lore.

New and experienced roleplayers are welcome.

**Important:** This is a fictional roleplay position within Second Life and is not real-world scientific employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct scientific research, examinations, observations, and experiments involving NEXUS subjects and anomalous phenomena.

• Create engaging experiments that provide meaningful roleplay opportunities for everyone involved.

• Interview and assess subjects while documenting behavioural, biological, psychological, or anomalous findings.

• Produce in-character research notes, experiment reports, test results, and incident documentation where appropriate.

• Monitor subjects before, during, and after experimental procedures.

• Coordinate with Containment Specialists and Security when handling potentially dangerous subjects.

• Work alongside Medical and other Research personnel when an experiment requires additional expertise.

• Follow NEXUS access restrictions, containment protocols, laboratory procedures, and emergency procedures while in character.

• Report unusual discoveries, containment concerns, injuries, experimental failures, or significant changes in subject behaviour.

• Participate in ongoing facility storylines, research projects, containment incidents, and emergencies.

• Develop original research ideas and propose new experiments or longer-term research programmes.

• Respect the agency of other roleplayers. Experiments should create RP rather than dictate another player's actions or outcomes.

• Maintain communication with the Research Department and NEXUS management when necessary.

General Requirements

• Must be interested in collaborative and immersive Second Life roleplay.

• No real-world scientific qualification is required. Scientific knowledge is welcomed but is not mandatory.

• New and experienced roleplayers are welcome.

• Must be able to separate in-character (IC) events from out-of-character (OOC) interactions.

• Must communicate respectfully with other players and staff.

• Must respect player boundaries, consent requirements, and NEXUS community rules.

• Must not force actions, injuries, transformations, experimental outcomes, or other major consequences onto another player's character without appropriate agreement.

• Must be willing to collaborate with Scientists, Subjects, Containment Specialists, Security, Medical personnel, and other NEXUS departments.

• Creativity and initiative are encouraged. Scientists are welcome to develop their own research interests, experiments, theories, and storylines within the NEXUS setting.

• Must communicate if unavailable for an agreed activity, event, or responsibility rather than simply disappearing.

• Must understand that NEXUS is a fictional Second Life roleplay environment. This position does not require or represent real-world scientific employment.

• Above all, applicants should contribute to enjoyable roleplay for other people rather than treating the position simply as authority over subjects.

Schedule

Flexible scheduling. NEXUS operates as a Second Life roleplay community and does not require fixed real-world working hours. Scientists may participate when available, with activity taking place across different time zones. Scheduled experiments, research sessions, events, or department activities will normally be announced in advance. There is no requirement to be online every day. We do ask members to communicate if they have committed to a scheduled activity and can no longer attend

Application Information

Apply for the Scientist position through CareerMatch.

Applicants should provide information about their Second Life roleplay experience, character concept, availability, and why they are interested in joining the NEXUS Research Department.

Previous scientific or medical roleplay experience is welcome but is not required. New roleplayers may apply.

Successful applicants will receive information about NEXUS rules, Research Department procedures, facility access, roleplay expectations, and orientation before beginning active duties.

Please ensure your Second Life username is entered correctly so NEXUS management can identify and contact you.

This is a fictional Second Life roleplay position. Compensation listed as GT refers to NEXUS Game Tokens used within the NEXUS ecosystem and does not represent real-world wages or Linden Dollar (L$) payment unless explicitly stated otherwise.
